Minnesota’s St. Cloud -- nicknamed "Granite City" for its quarries -- boasts a rock-solid inventory of restaurants to assuage diverse appetites. For "World Famous Fritter Bread" in apple, blueberry, cinnamon, and raspberry, the place to go is Nelson Bros. Restaurant & Bakery at the Clearwater Travel Plaza on Hwy 24. D.B. Searle's, built in 1886 by prominent lawyer and judge Dolson B. Searle and a block from the Civic Centre, brims with character and a steak, seafood, and pasta menu. With its Hairy Buffalo as the house drink, MC's Dugout Bar and Grill makes for exceedingly ambiant happy hours with complimentary appetizers amid diverse clientele. For pub grub satisfaction, the Press Bar and Parlor on West Saint Germain Street has made a name for itself on homemade pizzas, burgers, and tacos served amid pool tables, big-screen TVs, darts and video game action.
On Sixth Avenue, First Street Station serves Italian favorites, and Bo Diddley's Pub & Deli (with other locations around town), is good for grabbing a sandwich. Geez Bar & Grill, on West Saint Germain, is known for juicy burgers. Other casual options include Granite City Food & Brewery on 2nd Street, Sawatdee Thai Restaurant on West Saint Germain, Park Diner on Division Street, and Old Country Buffet, also on Division. Fine dining options include Cork’s Grill & Wine Bar, an independently owned St. Cloud original for steak and seafood, Anton’s for lunch or dinner in an authentic log cabin, and the Blue Heron Supper Club, a landmark for Italian and Mexican meals with an extensive salad bar. Chains include A&W, Blimpie, KFC, Outback, and Red Lobster.
